Resumes & Cover Letters – Your Introduction Tools

Brief Writeup:
The resume is a tool for you to introduce yourself to potential employers. You will learn how to write resumes that best reflect your abilities. Topics covered in this session include tips on the proper layout of a resume, how to make it as easy to read as possible, the essential information that should be included in a resume and the basic guidelines for writing cover letters.


Alumni Sharing Session

The Physics Society has invited 4 alumni, who are currently working in different fields (research, business, finance). They will be sharing their experience of looking for a job after they graduate, difficulties met, reasons for them to change from one job to another (if applicable) and the nature of their work.

Details of the speakers:

1. Tan Hui Ru, graduated with B.Sc (Hons) in Physics from NUS in 2007, currently working as a Research Officer, Materials Analysis & Characterisation group, Institute of Materials Science and Engineering (IMRE) from June 07 till now.

2. Lu Serh Huat, graduated with B.Sc(Hons) in Physics from NUS in 1996, his working experience includes:
• 1 yr with NIE as trainee teacher
• 5 yrs as Physics Lecturer/Tutor in Nanyang JC
• 2 yrs as Resource Tutor in Singapore Sports School
• 3 yrs as Executive Director, Apreps EduSupport Pte Ltd
• 2 yrs as Deputy Group Manager, Raffles Business International (Group Holding) Pte Ltd

His current appointment is Assistant Director, Raffles Business International (GH) Pte Ltd.

3. Sow Chorng Ing, graduated with B.Sc (Hons) in Physics from NUS in 1997, M.Sc in Physics from NUS in 1999, currently working as Product Engineer Manager at Hewlett Packard Singapore from 1999 till now.

4. Ng Jiatong, graduated with B.Sc (Hons) in Physics from NUS in 2006, worked in GIC for 1 year and currently working as a trader in OCBC.

There is a capped of 40 participants and priority given to year 3 and 4 physics majors for the workshop, first come first serve basis.
