National Day honours for A/Prof Kuldip Singh and Prof Sow Chorng Haur
Congratulations to A/Prof Kuldip Singh and Prof Sow Chorng Haur who were recognised for their merit and service to Singapore at the 2021 National Day Awards on 9 August. A/Prof Kuldip was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) and Prof Sow was awarded The Long Service Medal.
The Public Administration Medal (Bronze) (Pingat Pentadbiran Awam) (Gangsa), instituted in 1963, is bestowed to persons “for outstanding efficiency, competence and industry”. The medal makes Kuldip a double recipient of the National Day Awards. He was awarded the Commendation Medal in 2011.
Kuldip is Associate Professor in the NUS Department of Physics, the University Scholars Programme, and Master of King Edward VII Hall. He is also Admin Director of CQT, having led CQT’s administrative team as Admin Director since CQT’s founding in December 2007. Deeply involved in the establishment and running of the Centre from day one, his hard work and managerial skills have helped CQT grow and thrive.
Chorng Haur is Professor in the NUS Department of Physics and Vice-Dean (Outreach & Admissions) in the Dean’s Office at the Faculty of Science. He was also Head of Physics Department from 2014 until June 2021.
He has authored and co-authored many papers in the field of nanoscience and nanomaterials. He has a keen interest in developing various teaching methods to enhance students’ learning experiences. Prof Sow received many teaching awards, including the NUS Outstanding Educator Award (2008). He has travelled extensively to share his passion in teaching physics, especially with innovative science demonstrations.
The National Day Awards are given annually on Singapore’s birthday. A/Prof Kuldip and Prof Sow were two of 5710 recipients across 21 award categories.
