Celebrating Prof Feng’s Career at NUS

An event to honour Prof Feng Yuan Ping’s accomplishments at NUS was held on 26 May at the University Hall Auditorium. Titled “The Past, Current and Future of Computational Materials Science in Singapore: Celebrating Professor Feng Yuan Ping’s Career at NUS”, the event was graced by NUS President Prof Tan Eng Chye.

Prof Feng has been a faculty member at NUS Physics since 1990. His research interest is in the field of computational condensed matter and materials physics, with a focus on understanding the fundamental properties of materials for advanced technologies as well as prediction of new materials based on ab initio electronic structure calculations and materials genomic approach.

Prof Feng has an established track record in collaboration with experimentalists. He has authored/co-authored close to 600 scientific papers in international refereed journals and one book. He held various positions over the past years including Vice Dean of the Faculty of Science, Head of Department of Physics, Director of the Centre for Information Technology and its Applications as well as adjunct professor and visiting professor for several overseas universities.

A highly respected academic, Prof Feng was on the Faculty of Science Teaching Honour Roll having won numerous teaching awards. His professional contribution also includes being on the editorial board for several international journals.

It is indeed timely and an honour for the department to be able to celebrate Prof Feng’s career which has undoubtedly touched many lives, staff and students alike.
