Award Winners

Award recipients Mr Adam Wong Wei Ren and Mr Pan Xinghai share what contributed to their achievements.

Pan Xinghai (Recipient of KK Phua Prize for Best graduating Master’s Student from MSc)

Completing my Master of Physics for Technology degree has been an enriching experience for me. The programme provided me with a solid foundation in physics, an access to cutting-edge research opportunities and invaluable mentorship from esteemed faculty members. Engaging in research projects enhanced my problem-solving skills and fostered a sense of scientific inquiry in me. Collaborating with peers broadened my perspectives, while the supportive environment helped me move forward in my quest. I am grateful to be a part of NUS, which has equipped me with the tools and knowledge to tackle complex scientific challenges and pursue a successful career in the scientific field.

Adam Wong Wei Ren (Recipient of IPS Medal and KK Phua Prize for the best graduating undergraduate student in computational physics or theoretical research reading a primary major in Physics)

The journey of academic endeavour is never an easy one. Yet, the excitement of discovery compels us to make painstaking efforts in our attempts to understand and quantify the universe that we all know and love. I think it is fair to say that most of us here at NUS Physics share the same sentiments.

For my Honours year project, I had the privilege of working with Professor Edward Teo on a theoretical project on General Relativity. From tedious mathematical calculations to physical considerations to coding, the project utilised a perfect blend of the different skills imparted upon me in the first three years of undergraduate studies.

I am honoured to be the recipient of the IPS medal as well as the KK Phua Prize. I thank Dr Phua Kok Khoo and his family for their generosity and the Department of Physics, NUS, for recognising my achievements, and to everyone who has been a part of my undergraduate journey!
