I graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree from NUS Physics in 2009. After dedicating over ten years to teaching physics in secondary schools, I felt a strong desire to further my studies in physics. With the encouragement and support of my school principal and head of department, I took a professional development leave to pursue a master’s degree in physics from NUS.
Returning to higher-level physics after a decade was initially daunting. The lectures, tutorials, and assignments were challenging, but the professors’ approachability and warmth made all the difference. They genuinely cared about our well-being and always made time for us. I’ll never forget how Dr Yeo Ye rescheduled a test to allow me time to recuperate after a minor operation, or how Prof Andrew Wee, despite his own challenges, was always available for consultations and responded to emails with remarkable details and promptness.
NUS Physics has always been a second home to me. During my undergraduate years, I was deeply inspired by exceptional teachers like Prof Gong Jiangbin and Prof Wang Qinghai. My supervisor, Prof Englert, was instrumental in shaping my content knowledge and teaching skills with his guidance, patience, and kindness.
My recent journey towards a master’s degree has been incredibly enriching. I have gained a deeper understanding of physics and its real-world applications. The values and kindness imparted by my professors have instilled in me the passion and heart needed to be a better physics teacher to my own students.
Thank you, NUS Physics, for being such an integral part of my learning journey. I am profoundly grateful for the knowledge, inspiration, and support you have given me.
The values and kindness imparted by my professors have instilled in me the passion and heart needed to be a better physics teacher to my own students.
