Welcome

Welcome to our cutting-edge research centre, featuring a central 3.5 million volt nuclear accelerator.

The Centre for Ion Beam Applications (CIBA) is a multi-disciplinary research centre aimed at developing new technologies based on fast protons and ions, and simultaneously undertaking research into novel applications where proton or ion-based technologies provide a unique cutting edge.

Protons, with their unique physical properties, (behaving like heavy electrons), offer the potential to outperform the ubiquitous electron-based technologies in many applications. Examples include electron microscopy, electron lithography, electron spectroscopy, etc.

NUS CIBA Accelerator

Accelerator

Our accelerator serves as the source of ion beams for our five advanced beam line facilities. Among these remarkable beam lines, three are globally exclusive innovations, conceived and developed right here at our university. The remaining two are at the forefront of technological advancements in the field.

IAEA Collaborating Centre

As Singapore’s first International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) collaborating centre, we are committed to improving the field of accelerator science for various applications. Read more from IAEA or NUS News websites…

Multi-Disciplinary

The research work of over 30 members and students, not including a wide range of collaborators from within and outside of NUS, have developed through our centre. All our core academic members have considerable experience in ion beam and proton technology, working with many cross-disciplinary collaborators.
