Dr. Jiang Hui from NUS,led by Prof. Lee Ching Hua, has recently unveiled a groundbreaking discovery: non-Hermiticity redefines lattice dimensionality, challenging conventional understanding. This discovery, based on a new paradigm for studying high-dimensional systems, introduces the concept of dimensional transmutation, where the effective dimensionality of non-Hermitian systems differs from the physical dimensionality. This phenomenon is commonly observed in high-dimensional generic “entangled” lattices. This work not only prompts a reevaluation of existing topological classifications but also provides a fresh theoretical framework for exploring complex systems in higher dimensions. These findings were published in Phys. Rev. Lett. 131, 076401 (July 2023).
