The East Asian Single-Molecule Biophysics Symposium (EASMB) unites leading scientists, primarily from East Asia, to advance single-molecule biophysics research. The symposium fosters collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the exploration of future applications in this specialized field.
EASMB currently rotates among four core countries—China, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore—each with a strong presence in single-molecule biophysics. An international committee oversees the event, with each country nominating invited speakers. The symposium evolved from a bilateral Japan-South Korea Single-Molecule Symposium, becoming the EASMB in 2018 with the inclusion of Singapore, and then China in 2019.
The inaugural EASMB took place in Okayama, Japan, in 2018. The second meeting was held at Seoul National University, South Korea, in 2019.
The third symposium, planned for Chengdu, China, in 2020, and the fourth, planned for Singapore in 2021, were delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The third EASMB was held virtually from Singapore in October 2022. In-person meetings resumed in Wenzhou, China, in 2023, and Busan, South Korea, in 2024, attracting over 100 participants.
EASMB has grown into a pivotal hub for scientific exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration, dedicated to advancing single-molecule biophysics through sustained engagement of East Asian researchers.
