The Department of Physics warmly welcomed a group of visitors from Nankai University on 9 and 10 Oct. 13 undergraduates accompanied by three staff were here as part of their training in the Nankai Boling Programme, which is similar to the Special Programme in Science (SPS) at the National University of Singapore.

On their first-day visit, the visitors were briefed about SPS by Mr Andreas Dewanto, Assistant Director of SPS, followed by a tour of the SPS facilities. During lunch, the visitors were joined by a number of physics undergraduates from the department. It was indeed a time of neighbourly exchange as students from both sides mingled to share about their own academic experience.

Another highlight for the visitors was a visit to the Demo Lab. Head of the Department of Physics, Prof Sow Chorng Haur, was present to showcase visitors the fun of studying physics through many interesting live demonstrations. In the midst of laughter and wonders, the visitors had a good time learning physics too.

On the second day, the visiting students got to sit in two different physics classes, one in a computer lab and another in a lecture theatre. It was an eye-opening exposure as they saw how computing tool like Mathematica could be deployed to enhance the understanding and transfer of knowledge. The department wishes all the visiting students from Nankai University a great learning journey ahead as they continue their academic adventure back home.
